THE JOURNEY OF DEVELOPING HOA

Project "Hoa" started in the period 2017-2018 when Tung was working on Gamelab at NTU Singapore, and Tra (student of Digital Animation) was also in the same school. Although the idea of making a platform game with beautiful visual and gentle gameplay came up a long time ago, it was still vague. Hence, Tung discussed with Tra about developing the model and concept of "Hoa" - a fairy with a tiny physique and have a close relationship with nature. During that period, they had to manage their works and study to discuss "Hoa", from 3d model to its animation twice a week. As a result, a fairy named "Hoa" was the first thing that appeared in the project, and other ideas have steadily developed right after.
After finishing designing a character "Hoa", they decided to share character videos on Facebook, Reddit, and other social media in late 2018. The community's positive reaction gave 2 developers a shot in the arm to invest and develop the game project seriously. Since then, Tung started to expand the size of the project and call for help. In 2019, Tung and Tra decided to go back to Vietnam looking for other units for cooperation and support when the size of the project grew big enough and the current team can not meet the requirement. Luckily, Kyx Studio showed up and enthusiastic support in terms of production for the project.
Everything happened naturally in terms of gameplay and plot ideas (the character comes out from a flower and interacts with the environment). One year later since the first ideas of "Hoa", they determined that Hoa would be a fairy or a flower seed (completely different from the original idea of being human).
In terms of Soundtrack/music, some international composers contacted Tung and Tra. The two knew that they had to find more, so they posted the job vacancies to choose the one who best fit the project. Johanness - the Swedish composer called them and worked overnight to make two songs fitting the project Hoa. After that, there were two more people joining the audio team: Simon Evig mixed and adjusted tracks for the best quality; and Lauri Koivisto designed sound and supported Johanness in recording with the band. Thanks for the enthusiastic support of Simon and Lauri, Johanness has finally finished all OSTs for the game.
